“Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection not in words alone, but in every leaf in springtime.” These beautiful and insightful words were written by Martin Luther. It is so true that as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at Easter, we see that same resurrecting power of life made manifest all around us. We see it in nature, and we see it in the strength and spirit of those who are quietly, steadfastly committed to rise above challenging circumstances. What a perfect time to remember and celebrate the resurrecting power of the indwelling Christ to rise to any challenge and “prove God now!”
The Easter message, given us by Jesus, our Way-Shower, is one of hope, faith, and life. It has a great personal relevance for us today. We are emerging from a “dark night of the soul.” We have been through a death experience – the death of a way of life – of what was. As we continue to face the challenges of recovery and renewal and in the current political climate, we may feel our humanity taking the lead at times and wish with Jesus to “have this cup pass from me.” But we must remember we have the power to choose where we go from here. We can choose, as did Jesus, the path that leads to abundant life. We can transcend, overcome, and rise above as we follow His example by turning to Spirit, trusting and surrendering to God and keeping our movement forward in faith. As we keep the Easter message alive in our hearts, we are empowered by the Christ of our Beings to do the things that are ours to do. Truly, with God, all things are possible.
This month let us join together in quietly contemplating and affirming the words, “I Am the resurrection and the life.” Let them fill you with a renewed sense of life and hope. I wish you a transcendent, life-affirming experience this Easter season.
Rev. David
